Things To See
In the village you will see a church, General Store, Jail House, Saloon, School House, a small old Hip Roof Barn and a Village House - all filled with the appropriate memorabilia including a few surprises hidden here and there.
Most recently Linda developed her own "Swimming Hole" - something that she really enjoys on those 'hot Dog Days' of summer. And what's a village without a 30 foot lighthouse to go along with the "Hill Billy Yacht Club".
Out back, for those that are brave enough to cross the "Ankle Breaker" bridge, you can climb up the Look-Out Tower, from there you can see for miles and miles.
Linda has also been inspired to make metal art which she calls "Doggone Junk from Dogtown". These unique garden ornaments are made using a Plasma cutter which means the ideas are endless. These garden ornaments are in great demand.
As well as the village Linda breeds dogs and the kennel is called "Best Friends Kennel".
The History
Linda has lived on this 10 acre property since 1988. At first all she could afford was elbow grease, so she got to work. After about 10 years she could see the potential the property had. Her love for farming and animals led her into breeding dogs - "Best Friends Kennel", something she has been doing for over 15 years.
The idea of creating an old-fashioned village came from a combination of three things . . .
- Linda had been a collector (packrat) ever since she could remember, which led to a lot of stuff packed away for safekeeping.
- There was a severe infestation of Dutch Elm disease, which took the park-like yard and made it into a blank canvas.
- There was a lot of hype over the "Millennium Projects."
Adding these three situations together is what inspired Linda to start up the village in the year 2000. It took approximately 3 years to build the village, which Linda says would have never happened without her friends, family and neighbours.
