Mayor’s Message

My first visit to Morden Manitoba was as a teenager in the mid 1970’s when I accompanied my mother, a journalist for a rural newspaper while covering a story about a Dinosaur exhibit now housed at the Canadian Fossil Discovery Centre.

A decade later Morden was the setting for a memorable family golf tournament with my father and brothers. Then in 1999, my Dauphin-raised wife Linda’s love of rural living prompted us to move here so she could become a teacher at Ecole Morden Middle School.

From our very first day in Morden Linda and I felt embraced by everyone we met. We were deeply moved by how welcoming and supportive the people of Morden have been and we are grateful to be part of a community so deeply rooted in history, culture and faith.

I soon learned that while Morden offers the coziness of a small town it harbours the drive and ambition of a city ten times its size. A hub for world-class manufacturing, agricultural and retail industry, Morden is poised to be an industrial leader as we take our place in the increasingly green global market place.

Remembering that people come first, my main role as Mayor is to listen to each and every resident of Morden – to consider with equal impact the dreams, goals and concerns of one and all. And then, assisted by the considered counsel, good will and hard work of my colleagues, to do my best to lead Morden to achieve the vision set by its citizens.

So it is with great humility and honour that I assume the role of Mayor of Morden, Manitoba as we approach celebrating 125 years of precious lives lived on Manitoba’s golden prairies. My mother and father would have loved to be here with me at this moment and so it is in their memory that I promise to do the best job I can do as your Mayor.
